Happy Birthday Nick!

Situation at 22:00 – Twenty four Youth Crew members joined this afternoon as planned and the voyage program commenced immediately. Because of theexposed nature of the anchorage and the 2-3 metre swell it was decided to conduct the day one part of the program that is normallycompleted at anchor, alongside in Newcastle. This will mean that the Youth Crew will not be distracted by seasickness during the allimportant safety and climbing lectures and drills. The Staff Crew for the voyage is comprised of Captain John, XO Paul (Chooka), Navigator Philip (Spanky), Watch Officer Lauren(Lolly), Engineer Greg (Rags), Chef Chris (Polly), White Watch Leader Aaron (Bullet), Red Watch Leader Ben (Stony) and Blue WatchLeader Micheal (Dutchy). The Youth Crew have just completed their first climb up and over the Lower Top, and are now enjoying a mug of Kye and Birthdaycake compliments of Nick (Happy 17th!!). They have a big night ahead of them with their first night watches involving more climbing as well as training in knots, bends and hitches.YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Fact File: The name ENDEAVOUR, in addition to being the name of Captain Cook’s Ship on his first voyage (1768- 1771) is presently shared by a modern day replica of Cook’s Ship, a British Tanker, a New Zealand Naval Ship, an Australian youth training Ship and an American Space Shuttle.YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Glossary: Futtock Shrouds-Rope, Wire or Chain shrouds, which secure the lower dead-eyes or bottle screws of theshrouds to the mast above to a band around the mast below. These shrouds lead outwards at an angle of about 45 degrees from thevertical, depending upon how broad is the platform of the top above.Thought of the Day: The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.
