Final Night

Hi Everyone, The Youth Crew awoke bright and early this morning to a fine but rather cool Hobart morning. Following a short morning brief the anchor was weighed and we transited the short distance to Sullivans Cove were we berthed starboard side to Elizbeth Street Pier at 0900. After sullage (garbage) was landed and stores embarked, 37 guests from the Young Crossroads Organisation, students and teachers from both Geilson Bay l and Hutchins Schools, members of the Tasmanian Department of Veteran Affairs and a small number of Staff Crew guests were welcomed onboard. The lines were cast off at 1005 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into the Derwent River were engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. It was perfect weather for sailing and all of our guests enjoyed a most memorable sail around this spectacular river. Throughout the day the Youth Crew acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests with a special repertoire of their favourite Young Endeavour songs. By 1230 it was time to hand in all sail and begin our passage back to our berth, arriving safely alongside at 1300. Once we had farewelled our guests, stores for the next voyage were embarked and harbour furls completed. Once the Youth Crew had lay below they were taken ashore by their respective Watch Leaders to complete their end of voyage talks. By 1730 everyone had returned onboard and following dinner, which this evening consisted of a fantastic teak deck BBQ’, we again departed our berth and conducted a short passage to our planned anchorage in Sandy Bay. On dusk we commenced a photo slide show up on deck capturing various moments and experiences during the voyage. This gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 11 days and their amazing experiences throughout the voyage. The rest of the evening will be spent completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew are completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew will take the opportunity to conduct our own end of voyage debrief. At 1000 tomorrow morning Young Endeavour will berth starboard side to Elizbeth Street Pier for the final time for this voyage where we expect to be met by the normal gathering of family, friends and local spectators. Once alongside I will conduct a brief presentation ceremony before saying our final farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 5/10.This completes the Captains Log for Voyage 5/10. Young Endeavour and her Staff will now have a 3 day break in Hobart before the commencement of Voyage 6/10 Hobart Hobart which starts on Monday 8 March. Until next voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
