Wineglass Bay

Hi Everyone,                     Welcome to day three of our voyage. Overnight and during the early hours of this morning we continued to stay close to coast and transit through the Mercury Passage and into Great Oyster Bay which worked in our favour as we picked up some favourable westerlies which allowed us to sail rather than use engines.By sunrise we were located 10nm to the NNW of Maria Island sailing under fore and aft sail and enjoying the pleasant conditions.Morning Brief was as entertaining as ever and once completed we altered course to the east then transited through Schouten Passage under sail which gave the Youth Crew a great view of the spectacular peaks of the Freycinet Peninsular and Schouten Island.Once safely through the passage the wind veered to the southeast which gave us the chance to set our topsail then shaped a new course directly for Wineglass Bay which was located only 8nm to the north. At 1145 we entered Wine Glass Bay where we handed in all sail then conducted a routine Man Overboard Exercise (MOBEX) prior to proceeding safely to anchor in the confines of this picturesque bay.Early this afternoon we ferried everyone ashore for a swim and a hike to the very scenic Wineglass Bay lookout. Despite having only been at sea for 24hrs I think the Youth Crew appreciated the leg stretch and a chance to explore a little of the Freycinet National Park.By 1645 everyone was safely back onboard and after a short break we conducted our first round of competitive/non competitive Rope Races. Dinner followed then it was straight into an entertaining round of Three Way Chats (communication and getting to know each other exercise). Once completed, we weighed anchor, departed Wineglass Bay and in moderate to strong north easterly winds continued our passage north. The time is now 2100 and we are currently located 5nm to the NE of Wineglass Bay motor sailing into moderate to strong NNE winds which we expect to strengthen later tomorrow.Until tomorrow, take care Yours AyeCaptain Gav
