When the going gets tough

Yesterday evening we discussed the command day for nearly two hours. Both good and not so good aspects of the day were discussed and I found many of the comments very moving and even inspirational. It was a very honest, open and worthwhile affair. Today we took about 30 guests from some local youth organisations and took them for a three hour sail. Our newest crew members had an excellent time and this was made possible by the great effort of the YC making them feel welcome and getting them involved in climbing aloft and sailing the ship. After we dropped off our guests the ship sailed again while end of voyage talks were conducted followed by the harbour furling of the square sails. The ship anchored just after sunset. The YC are now busy preparing for the end of voyage concert that will be held in a couple of hours. It’s then one more night at anchor and we will berth tomorrow at 1000 completing the voyage. As this voyage draws to a close, I see a wonderful YC that have really pulled together and developed as a great team. We have had some very tough sailing conditions and it has been a tiring and arduous voyage. As the song says – when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Andrew
