Voyage 6/13 Day 4 – Patonga to Sea

Ahoy there Shipmates, We had a great night at anchor off Patonga, with the wind gently rocking the ship overnight. Youth Crew got their first experience of anchor watches, during which they were responsible for monitoring the safety of the Ship through the night.Wakey wakey (UK Squeeze’s ‘Cool for Cats’) over the Ship’s broadcast stirred those not on watch out of their slumber at 0630 and motivated everyone to get up on deck to take advantage of a morning swim and rope swing prior to one of Squizy’s scrumptious BBQ breakfasts. We all mustered on the bridge for the ceremony of ‘Colours’ at 0800, after which we had the morning brief. Salty explained the origin of another nautical expression Store High in Transit (S.H.I.T.), after which Nana paid us a visit and gave the crew some more pointers on the importance of tidiness and cleanliness onboard. After that she added another song, ‘Bananas’, to our repertoire. The crew then launched into ‘Happy Hour’ to ensure the Ship was clean and tidy while the Staffies weighed anchor and shaped a course to exit the Hawkesbury and put to sea. As soon as the Ship was cleaned some of the watches commenced setting and furling drills on the fore-and-aft sails whilst others laid-aloft to cast-loose gaskets from the square sails. Sail Master Guv gave the square sails brief and then the watches set the Top Gallant and Topsail squares. We then broke for lunch followed by the next edition of Rope-Races. Today’s questions were based on the fore-and-aft sails and associated equipment. It was a close run thing, with one point separating each of the watches. The next activity was a Navigation brief from Tim. Following that the watches re-grouped and spent the afternoon setting and furling the fore-and-aft sails and then clewing up and sea-furling the squares. It is planned to remain at sea overnight. We are experiencing internet connectivity difficulties so I will be unable to post this log immediately. Hopefully we will have fault-finding and repair success with it tomorrow.Until tomorrow evening.Yours AyeCaptain Mike   “
