Voyage 11-10 Underway

Hi Everyone, Welcome to Voyage 11/10 which is the fourth of our northern voyages for 2010. This voyage will see us spend the next 11 days sailing from Bundaberg to Mackay and exploring some of the spectacular Queensland coast. I would like to introduce the Team of Staff Crew that will facilitate this voyage of adventure:Captain GavSail Master DamienNavigator Adam BOATSO Taffy Watch Officer- Paul Red Watch Leader Carly White Watch Leader JarodBlue Watch Leader SnowyChef AdrianEngineers – Lindsey and Leon The voyage commenced at 1500 today with the Ship at anchor in the Burnett River just north of the Bundaberg Marina. It is unusual for us the commence a voyage at anchor but due to the current tides and the silting which has occurred at the Marina the depth of water was to shallow for us to remain alongside at the Marina Berth (Young Endeavours draft is 4m). By 1600 all of the new Youth Crew had been ferried onboard and once gear had been stowed, everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion of this address it was straight into a safety brief followed by a number of ice breaker activities’ and ships tours. Dinner followed, with Chef Adrian (YE’s Master Chef) amazing us with his culinary skills. Once we had cleaned up from dinner, I had a bit of chat to the Youth Crew about what their voyage would entail and my expectations over the next eleven days. On completion, Damien, as Sail Master gave his talk about some of the rules, regulations and safety aspects of Young Endeavour before giving a safety aloft brief and demonstration on how to climb the foremast. Once he had finished this demonstration I inverted all of the Youth Crew in their harnesses which is our final safety check prior to commencing our first climbs. With some nerves and a great deal of courage and determination every member of the Youth Crew is currently undertaking their first climb to the topgallant yard (highest yard) on top of the foremast. This climb will complete today’s activities and once the last member of the crew is safely back on deck everyone will turn in for their first nights sleep onboard Young Endeavour. Tomorrow we will continue with some more safety drills prior to weighing anchor around midday then commencing our passage along the Central QLD Coast. Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
