Voyage 10-14 Commences

Hi Everyone, It’s Captain Gav returning to the ship for Voyage 10/14 and assuming command from Captain Mike who has done a fantastic job of commanding Young Endeavour over the past two years. This voyage will see us spend the next 11 days sailing from Hamilton Island to Mackay and along the way experiencing the amazing Queensland Coast and the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. The YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows: Captain – Gav Sail Master – Jen Navigator – Miquela BOATSO – Kenny Red Watch Leader – Dave White Watch Leader – Paul Blue Watch Leader – Tilly Chef – Hayden Engineer – Lindsey The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour at the Super Yacht Berth at the Hamilton Island Marina. Once all gear had been stowed everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled loved ones, family and friends and then made preparations to set sail. At 1550 lines were cast-off and we transited the 3nm around to the north west of Fitzalan Island which was our planned anchorage for the night. Once at anchor the Watch Leaders conducted a number of ‘ice breaker activities’ which was followed by ships tours. Dinner followed, with Chef Hayden producing another one of his amazing meals with tonight’s menu consisting of grilled chicken, beef curry, rice and vegtables. This was followed by a desert of banana cake and fresh fruit. After dinner the Sail Mistress Jen discussed with the Youth Crew, voyage expectations, requirements and safety aspects for the next 11 days onboard. Then without further ado, some nerves, a few “jelly like” legs, and a great deal of courage every single member of our new crew proceeded aloft onto the foremast for their first night climb. The time is now 2200 and I am very pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew successfully made it to the topgallant yard (highest yard on the foremast) and have performed extremely well on their first day. They are now enjoying a celebratory hot chocolate prior to taking a 90 second shower, then will turn in for a well deserved first night sleep onboard Young Endeavour. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
