Voyage 10/09 Underway
Hi Everone, Welcome to Voyage 10-09 from Townsville to Cairns. This is the sixth voyage of Young Endeavours 2009 circumnavigation of Australia. Today’s voyage commenced at the Port of Townsville, were we welcomed the new Youth Crew and a small number of family and friends. By 1520 all of the new Youth Crew where onboard and following my welcome address we farewelled family and friends. At 1600 lines were cast off and the ship conducted a well executed manoeuvre to depart her berth. Once clear of the port we commenced our 2 hour passage around to well sheltered Horseshoe Bay (Magnetic Island), which was our planned anchorage for this evening. Throughout this passage the Watch Leaders conducted ice breaker activities followed by ships tours. Once these activities were complete everyone sad down and enjoyed one of Chef Jarod’s fantastic dinners. The first night of the voyage is always busy and tonight will be no different. On completion of dinner it was straight into Sail Master and Captains talks followed by climbing safety briefs. Tonight all watches will be given the opportunity to experience there first climb of the foremast (33 meters to the top) and it is hoped that all will be successful in this first challenge. The forecast for tomorrow is fine with 10-15kt south easterly’s, so the plan is to depart Horseshoe Bay and commence our journey north.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain GavStop Press! The time is 2205 and all of the Youth Crew have achieved climbing to topgallant yard, which is a great effort for their first climb.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
