Day 02 – Rough Seas! (Painted Sails?)
Ahoy landlubbers! Ballistic Blueys Sophia and Carl checking in. Today we began our day with a killer breakfast from our wonderful chef Ash and motor sailing from Jervis Bay through some fun seas. This was followed by Morning Brief and the happiest hour of the day! But not before Sven the Sea Cowboy left us with some parting words of wisdom. Rough seas ahead!
We had a variety of conditions today, first it was five knots of wind, then it was two, then it was ten, then thirty! Despite the shifting conditions we managed to set the jib, forestay sail, mainstay sail, and the main sail.
Have you heard of painting the sails? We didn’t think it was possible but now we believe that with a good attitude, a smile, a hearty lunch, and a healthy pinch of nausea on the t’gallant yard you too can leave your mark on Young Endeavour and some unlucky Returnees and Staffies (sorry Captain Libby!).
This did not put a dent in the Ropies spirit, with white watch narrowly beating the Ballistic Blueys to first place after an excellent performance in the life ring challenge. Since then, we have been continuing our watches, assisting Chef Ash in the kitchen and Matty the Maverick on the foremast. We are now looking out the windows of the chart house at a beautiful sunset, hoping that the sailor’s adage about “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight” holds true for tomorrow’s passage through the Bass Strait.
Maddy says hello to her family at home!
From Sophia: veel liefde voor iedereen die thuis mee zit te kijken—Ik kijk er naar uit jullie snel weer te zien, en te vertellen over dit avontuur!
From Carl: I hope you’ve all got home safely and are giving Malia heaps of pats from me!

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
