Day 10 – Ahoy Newcastle! (Community Day)

Argh! Ahoy there! Welcome to the Captain’s Log for Day 10! And can anyone believe how fast the days have sailed by!
We’ve done all our briefs. We know all our lines and sails. And this morning the ship was ours to navigate to our final destination: Newcastle!

After putting Command Day on hold due to Mother Nature, our Youthie Crew lead by Captain Brit, made our way down from Port Stephens as fast as we could. Battling our way through 35 knot winds and 2 meter swells our ship ended up saltier than sea dog Charlotte! But we made it! Our Command Day was a huge success. We completed our list of tasks with flying colours and made it safely into Newcastle to welcome our lovely visitors from the Hunter Disability Group.

Community Day was such a great opportunity for all Youthies on board. Getting to take those who would otherwise would not get to experience Young Endeavour on a tour of our lovely vessel and allow the Youthies to share their experiences during a voyage. A wonderful time for all!

But like the rising and setting of the sun, the ebbing and flooding of the tide, and the waxing and waning of the moon, all things must come to an end.

Our last full day on this majestic tall ship, we finished our eventful day with Pizza Night which was beloved by all. The Youthies all participated in End of Voyage chats, a great way for the Watches to reflect on their time sailing the East Australian coast. Once we were all wrapped up, tears shed all around, we got one final look back at this voyage with a slideshow photo reel. Photos from watches, trips ashore, and anything else people decided couldn’t be forgotten.

All Youth Crew are blessed with a full night’s sleep, even though many are still awake and rowdy as time ticks away. Everyone is so grateful for this experience, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything else!

Thank you for following our journey! We are sad to see it come to an end, and hope that fate will let us meet again soon.

Youthies of Voyage 17/23 are over and out.
