Day 9 – Command Day Part 2

Hello to all friends and family following along on our Young Endeavour adventure. It’s youthies Sam and Lily (D) to bring you today’s recount!

V14/22 is wrapping up, with only 2 sleeps left. Today was the second half of command day, and we are excited to share with you that it was a huge success! After sailing out of beautiful Broken Bay, we were well on our way to reach our next navigational check points throughout the night. At approximately 0015, our Sail Mistress Jordan called everybody up on deck to complete our first tack. While tired faces emerged from below, youth crew were able to spot some fireworks from Sydney, a blood moon and a clear array of stars. While it wasn’t the hastiest of tacks, it sure did turn the ship around (although, in the wrong direction-whoops!). After some more sailing and navigational mayhem, we eventually got back on track and saw the sun rise.

We had clear blue skies and light winds whilst we sailed into the heads of Sydney Harbour, before anchoring at Little Manly. Youthies rushed around deck completing the last of command day tasks, such as song and skit writing, and creating a brightly coloured chalk mural on deck. After handing back command of the ship to the staffies, it was time for a much anticipated activity-the rope swing! There sure are some talented crew members, who were able to show off their ‘graceful’ form as they plunged into the harbour.

We dried off in the sun, and then munched on Jarod’s lunchtime feast of salmon, lamb, and salad. We finished the final round of the (competitive) non-competitive ropies competition. Red watch claimed first prize, and Blue watch came in second place before ‘White Watch slayyyy’!

We then sped across to the Manly Heritage Quarantine station and spent time debriefing command day on the beach. After the happiest hour of the day (cleaning stations), we spent the evening playing Captain Mike’s trivia and held a 15 minute disco.

Congratulations to all youthies, and our awesome command team on an awesome command day!

We are making the most of our last few days on board the Young Endeavour, and are looking forward to seeing our family soon,

Sam and Lily.
