Day 06 – V14/25, Fremantle to Fremantle

Hi Everyone,

Well following another great night of sailing where we even had to reduce sail because we were going too fast, we finally came to anchor in the beautiful Houtman Abrolhos Islands at 0900 this morning. For those that are regular followers of the Captain’s Log, you will notice that we try and take the Youth Crew to remote and spectacular parts of the country and this is one of those special places, and it is wonderful to be back. Once at anchor, we completed some of the normal morning routines, and then after an early lunch, the Youth Crew were ferried ashore to enjoy one of these remote islands. Tonight we also celebrated Gareth’s 21st Birthday with a Chocolate Cake!

That’s enough from me, I will now hand-over to Oscar Kamryn & Leeroy, who have done a great job of writing tonight’s Log.

Until tomorrow, take care
Captain Gav.

Ahoy there! Welcome to day six of our voyage. The day began with Steve cooking up scrumptious pancakes in the galley, making a great start to our busy day.

In our daily morning brief, we learnt more about the backstory of our seamanship evolutions and how important they are today. In specific the two-six heave and its backstory dating back as far as the early 1600s.

Jack’s thrilling story continued, setting up today’s anchor point of the Houtman Abrolhos islands, where we were soon to depart to. The historic importance was shared with us in great detail, which built up the enthusiasm throughout the ship.

Story of the island- with temporary settlement as early as 1612 from the Dutch sailors. With an old fort still standing strong, which created a truly grounding experience for what the land we sailed to once hold.

After the daily yarn we jumped to the crew’s favourite “happy hour”, there was not a dusty surface in sight. With the bar being raised higher everyday the crew really had to think outside the box to predict which high ceilings and dirty corners the staff were going to check. Once granted a pass to the relief of us all, the next pipe was about our numerous opportunities we would have in the island.

As the RHIBs were lowered the thrills kicked in. Three hours filled with scenic snorkelling, sightseeing and soaking up the warm sun rays. Included in the RHIB was two bags packed to the brim with snorkelling gear. With sizes for all, we ventured into the surprisingly warm waters when we came across some unexpected friends.  During the dive we came across two seals which immediately took everyone’s focus. They showed off with a couple of flips with seamlessly gliding through the water.

After our big day of adventures and memories we gathered around the Midships and had a full crew BBQ to celebrate the middle of our voyage. The atmosphere was filled with good music, good vibes and good waves. With special guest Captain Gav cooking up a feed for our hungry sailors. Followed up with words of wisdom that will carry on our high spirits for tomorrow.

We can not wait for day seven! Until we speak again,
Oscar Kamryn & Leeroy.
