Day 4 – Hands to Tacking Stations!
Ahoy there Mateys! Welcome to Day 4 of the Captains Log.
Following a cold windy morning rotating watches, our Youthies finally got to explore the ship’s Main Sail and Jib. It required immense teamwork, communication, and effort from all the watches to conquer the fierce wind thrust upon us.
After successfully setting our ships iconic sails, our Youthies learnt how to tack the ship, allowing us to manoeuvre around an impending collision course with a stray rock.
The ability to sight new and exciting creatures throughout our wonderful waters did not end today as our Youthies spotted a rare sea snake at the bow of the ship.
We had another day of amazing meals by Chef Ash and her Master Chef helpers in the Galley – Abi, Lucas and Fyn.
Mother Nature finally blessed our Youthies with a rainless, sunny day followed by an illustrious sunset viewed from aloft for many of our brave Youthies.
Finally, after a long day of straight sailing, we anchored tonight off the beautiful Magnetic Island. Plans to visit ashore the following day has excited many of our seasick Youthies looking to hug a tree.
Signing off for now, Ollie, Codie, Aden
Hello there armchair sailors! Haven’t the Youthies been doing a great job writing the Captain’s Log!
Whilst at anchor in Horseshoe Bay tonight we also conducted 3-way chats. This is where the Youthies have the chance to mingle with members of the other watches, get to know more about their talented fellow Youth Crew members, then introduce them to the crew. As always, the Staffies got quite competitive with the Charades, but all in all everyone enjoyed a very informative and entertaining evening.
After 3-way chats, Navigator Seb gave a comprehensive brief on looking after the ship at anchor so that tonight the Youthies can have their first go at Anchor Watches. If they do a good job and we don’t float away during the night, we’ll hopefully get ashore in the Morning!
Tune in tomorrow to hear how they went! Until then, stay safe friends! Captain Libby+

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
