Day 7 – Amidst the Storm
As the sun rose over our seventh day, the wind sang through every corner of the ship, the birds sang in the trees, and Jarod sang when he thought no-one was listening.
We found ourselves waking up to the beautiful views of Sealers Cove, beset by hailstorms and gale force winds. Many from the morning watch claimed it was snowing.
Youthies undertook a character building activity – “Stop, Start, Continue.” – reflecting on our personal growth and current challenges.
Coincidently, “Stop, Start, Continue” was also the pattern that the downpours & volleys of hail chose to follow throughout the day. With the frequency of outfit changes, the velcro on Young Endeavour’s wet weather gear has never felt such strain.
We braved this weather, completing sailing drills to reef and furl the sails. Many went barefoot (letting the dogs out) in order to avoid getting their shoes wet. Several youthies performed involuntary rain dances as rain turned to shards of ice, while others dared to climb the 30 meter mast.
Youthie Heath has united the animal kingdom in his creation of a wrap comprised of lamb, beef, chicken, ham, and a single lemon wedge. Once construction was complete, Heath fashioned the tortilla wrap into the shape of an antique purse, then promptly inhaled it. When he returns to his life as a landlubber he plans to open a deli with the signature dish ‘Old McDonald had a Double Bypass’.
Amidst the storm, an unfortunate seagull found himself level with the boat, his efforts directly matching the speed of the wind. Suspended in midair for several hours, he was later seen in deep conversation with our lovely Captain Cook of the Seaboat, and reportedly learned 23 Indonesian words before eventually flying away.
Dayna, Annabel, Jaz, & Manya worked hard throughout the afternoon to make a fun & interactive trivia night for the evening. The result was several hours of fun with amusing banter between red watch, blue watch, white watch, and the staffies.
Despite the circumstances being less than ideal, we’re heartened to report that morale remains high. With no place to hide, we continue to learn more about one another, building bonds that will hold for a long time to come. Once again we’d like to extend our deep appreciation to Jarod, whose incredible cooking remains the only thing more consistent than the awful weather.
Many thanks for reading, much love, hope you’re all well, & please continue reading over the coming days. See you soon.
Hayden, Rish, Claire, & Lachy.
PS: Special shoutout to you Dad, hope you had a wonderful day. Wish I was there! ~Rish

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
