Day 3 – Sailing south into southerlies

Ahoy from the Young Endeavour youthies of Voyage 13, 2022.

After our first night of rotating watches (20:00 – 24:00, 00:00 – 04:00, 04:00 – 08:00), the number of sick bags tossed overboard was finally eclipsed by the number of bags under eyes.

We left Jervis Bay at 09:00, with the whole team working together to set sail out into the open ocean. All held thoughts of impressing friends & family with the calluses these ropes will build over the coming days.

Dolphins, albatross, and gannets (controversial, could’ve been a seagull having an off day) were spotted from the bridge.

Tor, master of navigation, gave us a brief on the Sunfish in the early morning. Not 12 hours later, a sunfish appeared port side, stunning all. We have submitted a request for gold bars & diamonds to feature in Tor’s next briefing and will be looking to the sea with hope (and a big net).

Sumo the Engineer presided over the second rope races of V13/22. While White Watch remains in front, sources tell us that momentum is building behind Blue Watch, which made significant gains this afternoon following yesterday’s less impressive performance.

With the weather getting colder, windier, and wetter, many of the team are thankfully gaining sea legs & adjusting to the new conditions of life on Young Endeavour.

Dayna impressed all by braving a first climb out onto the course yard in far from ideal weather conditions – most of us were scared to go up while the ship was anchored!

Jarrod continues to amaze with the quality & quantity of food produced in that boxy kitchen.

We now continue down the coast, down past Grasshopper Island and Bateman’s Bay.

Hope you’ll continue to follow these logs like beavers midway through a stressful reno.

Much love to you all; thanks for reading.
