V05/13 Day 10 – Half Day Sail
Ahoy there Shipmates, A well deserved night’s rest at anchor was had by all. I think everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day, but that didn’t stop us from conducting our usual Early Morning Activity on the upper decks to the beat of Sail Master Rico’s tune. Then it was straight into weighing anchor departing Hunters Bay and making best speed under engines to the Fleet Base at Woolloomooloo where we berthed alongside at 0900. We then embarked 36 half day sailors which included twenty-nine guests from Sunnyvale Disability Services. We departed the wharf at 1000 and spent 3 hours sailing around the harbour west of the harbour bridge. Having farewelled our guests back in Woolloomooloo the watches conducted their end of voyage chats ashore in the park on Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. We then had the final edition of ‘Ropies’ and conducted the harbour-furl of the square sails. To achieve this all of the Youth Crew proceeded aloft on the yards to fold-up the sails and then stow them inside their UV covers. We finally departed the wharf at 1720 and proceeded to anchor in Athol Bay, next to the zoo, where we remained overnight. Luke treated us to a pizza night for dinner. He has a standing, as yet un-met, challenge for a crew to eat all the pizza that he produces on a pizza night. The challenge still remains not-yet-achieved. The Youth Crew completed some end-of-voyage paperwork before undertaking the final two tasks from Command Day. The reading of a poem about the voyage, composed by Amelia Cooke, and the viewing of a slide show depicting the voyage, composed by Lyesha Vallance, Jess Turner and Keri Ward. The crew then turned in with the promise of a first-light climb at 0600 tomorrow. Yours Aye Captain Mike             “Â

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
