Day 9 – Command Day! (Part 2)
Ahoy there, I like the cut of your jib!
What a night for the Youthies! Through treacherous waves and hazardous winds, we said our final goodbyes and prayed to the nautical gods and Mother Nature that this wouldn’t be our final night. At 2300 the Youthies were called to Tacking Stations and, after some heaves, hurls, and furls, they altered the ship’s course, albeit with a few slips and slides.
The next morning, the Youthies were awoken by a special Wakey Wakey rendition by Jeff, Tara and Maia off the beautiful harbour of Port Stephens. On watch, they were accompanied by our fellow sea neighbours, a pod of dolphins. They were then treated to a breakfast cooked by the Youthie Chefs Matt, George, Oliver and supervised by Stevo.
At 0800, we anchored in beautiful Shoal Bay, and the Youthie Command Team did their final Morning Brief with an inspiring quote of the day ‘’We did it, We did it, We did it, Hooray!!’’ – the infamous Dora The Explorer. They more than willingly passed their roles back to the Staffies and the ship was back to normal.
The Staffies and Youthies got together for a final debrief of Command Day, discussing the good, the not so good and the final takeaways of our journey on voyage 03/24.
We completed some of the final challenges left over from Command Day including sea shanties we had composed ourselves and the slideshow of the trip.
After a much needed siesta, the ‘salty pool’ was opened. We gracefully swung into the ocean on a rope swing and off the bowsprit. Then we hit the dancefloor with some disco tunes. Party Master Amalea treated us with some special party games, and we danced the night away. We ended the night with a final round of Rope Races (including a bonus round of “rock band”) and an inspiring poem read by Trevor that didn’t leave a dry eye.
With the voyage almost at an end, we’ll see you all soon. Until then, goodbye. Roger out.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
