Day 5 – A Day of Learning and Laughter!
Ahoy there Polywogs!
This morning the vibes were high as we had a successful night of anchor watches and night rounds. We awoke at 0600 to the clear and calm waters of Trial Bay and a delicious Teak Deck BBQ breakfast.
After a slow relaxing start we were summoned to the bridge for our Morning Brief by Trev’s lovely singing. At 0800 we took off our hats and sang the national anthem as we raised the flags for the Colours ceremony. Seb the Nav then informed us of the cloudy but cool weather we had predicted for the day followed by ‘Chewing the Fat with Matt’ where we learned how the nautical term of S.H.I.T originated. We ended with an inspiring quote by Captain Libby, before setting off for the happiest hour of the day.
Our first activity of the day was ‘Sailing Theory’ with Captain Libby where we learned how the wind and the waves greatly affect the sails we can and cannot set. This was followed by a ‘Rules of the Road’ brief delivered by Matt where we learned how to navigate and interact with markers and other vessels in the water.
After lunch was two competitive rounds of Rope Races followed by an icy pole challenge. We enjoyed the team building and supportive vibes.
At 1530 we weighed anchor and set off ready to spend the night at sea. During this time, we had a long siesta in which we enjoyed laying down on the deck, going over our knowledge with our watch leaders and engaging in story telling with each other. It amazes us all how quickly we have formed such strong bonds!
We ended the night with another awesome dinner from Stevo before starting our overnight watches.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
