Day 1 – Ahoy New Friends!
Ahoy there landlubbers, armchair sailors and salty sea dogs! Welcome to the Captain’s Log for Voyage 03/24. It’s Captain Libby back at the helm!
The Sydney weather couldn’t decide what it wanted to do, raining on and off throughout the day. With drizzle threatening once again, the Youth Crew of V03/24 joined us alongside HMAS Waterhen. Our brand new Youthies were brought on board and shown their bunks while family and friends wandered the upper decks. Once that was done, we gathered at midships where I welcomed everyone on board and introduced my wonderful crew taking us up to Newcastle. For V03/24 I am joined by: Sail Master – Trev, Navigator – Seb, Watch Officer – Matty, White Watch Leader – Christine, Assistant White Watch Leader – TJ, Red Watch Leader – Karsen, Blue Watch Leader – Sara, Engineer – Sumo, and finally, Chef – Steve!
Finally, the sun broke through the clouds, and it was clear that we had to get off the wharf and begin our adventure! With last hugs and final goodbyes, we departed Waterhen and embarked on a brief tour of Sydney Harbour.
With the classic sights of Sydney going by, the Watch Leaders took charge for ice breakers and ships tours. Before long, Chef Steve called us all to dinner with baked ham, hoisin duck and pasta on offer.
Soon it was time to anchor and settle on deck for a series of briefs from our knowledgeable Staffies. First up was resident Safety Expert Matty to teach us what to do in an emergency, then Medical Care Provider Sara and Engineer Sumo gave us lots of tips and tricks for staying happy, healthy, and safe on board. Finally, I gave a brief about what to expect during the voyage (the unexpected of course!) followed by the last brief of the night with Trev.
Eventually the rain returned, putting a big dampener on the spirits for the evening, so it was time to head below for some warm showers and bed.
Well friends, the V03/24 has started and our Youthies are all tucked in resting up for the busy days ahead. Check out the Captain’s Log each evening for an update on our adventures! Stay safe new friends! Captain Libby +

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
