TOUGH NIGHT AT SEA
Ahoy Shipmates,Well Bass Strait has done it to us again. Late last night we did get the forecasted wind shift to the NW which resulted in the ship going to tacking stations at 2345. Once this tack was complete we shaped course to the east and headed for Banks Strait and that’s when the weather turned nasty. What started as moderate winds soon turned to gale strength and before long we were getting wind gusts up to 50kts and an increasing swell. As you can imagine this weather did not help the Youth Crew acclimatize with their new environment and before long most had suffered the ill effects of seasickness. The conditions continued to deteriorate during the early hours of the morning and at 0600 I decided to suspend the training program until we had passed through Bank Strait and where in the lee of Flinders Island. This occurred at 1730 and straight away a number of the YC ventured to the bridge looking a lot better than they had 8 hours previously. The time is now 2000 and Chef Jarod has just finished dinner and it was pleasing to see a number of the YC back eating again (and holding it down). At present we are making good progress up the east coast of Flinders Island and it is anticipated that we will anchor at Foochow Beach, which is located on the north eastern side of Flinders Island early tomorrow morning.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav      Â

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
