The Last Hurrah

Situation at 11:00: At 06:30 this morning, the Youth Crew awoke for their final set of early morning activities. After a long night of swappingcontact details, completing journals and generally reflecting on the past ten days, it seemed a general sense of self-satisfaction and achievement had settled over the Ship.> By 08:00 all hands were bright eyed and bushy tailed, and ready for their last hurrah. Following an abbreviated morning brief, the Youth Crew turned to a final set of cleaning stations before preparing to depart the wharf, in order to return to a different berth at 10:00. At 09:00 the last line was brought inboard and the Ship proceeded to the south in cold blustery conditions. At 09:30 the Ship turned to the North and the Youth Crew layed aloft to man the yards. This was to be where they stayed for the final 30 mins of their voyage, as YOUNG ENDEAVOUR made her way back to Station St Pier, making an impressive sight as she berthed. At 10:30, after the Youth Crew layed below for the last time, XO -Chooka mustered the Youth Crew at Midships for the presentation of certificates and awards before some final photographs were taken. The Youth Crew then made their final farewells to each other and the Staff Crew. A dry set of eyes was pretty hard to find.Voyage 06/03 has been a challenging experience for the Youth Crew, yet they have each and every obstacle with panache and vigour. It is most gratifying to continue to see the determination and skill of so many young Australian’s. As always I remain convinced that the future of this country is in good hands. BZ (Well Done) to all.Thought of the Day: Still around the corner there may waitA new road or a secret gate,And though I oft have passed them by,A day will come at last when IShall take the hidden paths that runWest of the Moon, East of the Sun.
