SAILING IN BASS STRAIT
PAST 24 HOURSYESTERDAY YOUNG ENDEAVOUR WAS MOTOR SAILING TO DROMANA. ON DECK THE WINDS WERE FRESHENING REQUIRING STORM SAILS TO BE BENT ON BY THE WATCH ON DECK. EXCELLENT GROUND WAS MADE BY MID AFTERNOON AND THE SHIP ANCHORED OFF SAFETY BEACH FOR THE NIGHT. EVERYONE ONE MAINTAINED SEA WATCHES OVERNIGHT AND A MULTITUDE ACTIVITIES WERE CONDUCTED BY THE WATCHES. BLUE WATCH CAPTURED THE SUNSET ALOFT WHILE RED WATCH BENT ON THE FORE STAYSAIL AND WHITE WATCH COMPLETED EVERYONE THROUGH ROUNDS. THIS MORNING THE WIND HAD ABAITED AND YOUNG ENDEAVOUR WEIGHED ANCHOR AND PROCEEDED TO SEA AND CLEARED THE RIP (PORT PHILLIP HEADS) BEFORE LUNCH. ALL WELL.YOUTH CREW IMPRESSIONSMARK GRAFTON IT HAS BEEN ABOUT THREE DAYS ON THE SHIP SO FAR AND I HAVE BRECOME ACCUSTOMED TO THE SEA GENTLY ROCKING ME TO SLEEP, AS OPPOSED TO NAUSEA. IT HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE BLAST, ESPECIALLY THE VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE MAST AT NIGHT TO SEE MELBOURNE LIT UP AROUND US, PLUS MY AWESOME WATCHMATES… GO REDDIESBIANCA MELBOURNE THE SUN HAS FINALLY JOINED US AFTER THREE DAYS,BRINGING ON THE BEST SAILING DAY SO FAR. AFTER DEPARTING THE BAY THIS MORNING WE ARE HEADING BACK IN FOR ANCHORAGE TONIGHT AT RYE. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A CLEAR NIGHT FOR MORE CLIMBING…VANESSA MELBOURNE DAY THREE OF TRIP AND IT HAS BEEN AWSOME SO FAR TODAY IS BEAUTIFUL WEATHER AS WE HEAD OUT OF THE BAY. Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow.
