Safely Across Bass Strait
Hi Everyone,                 Welcome to day six of our voyage. The Youth Crew awoke refreshed this morning following a peaceful night at anchor. Given the pleasant conditions we started the morning with a refreshing swim then enjoyed a breakfast of egg and bacon rolls served on deck. At 0900 we weighed anchor, set fore and aft sails and headed back out into Bass Strait where we were greeted by a pleasant 12-15kt south westerly and a 1m swell. Given these favourable conditions we quickly closed the ship up at tacking stations, conducted a good set of rotational tacks then spent the rest of the morning consolidated some sail work. This afternoon I gave the Youth Crew a presentation on sail theory and once completed got them to set two of the square sails then in perfect conditions conducted a good set of demonstrational tacks. This activity lets the Youth Crew come to the bridge to observe what happens when we tack or wear the ship and is an important activity in the lead up to Command Day.The time is now 2000 and we are located 3nm to the east of Wilson’s Promontory still sailing under fore and aft sail and enjoying pleasant sailing conditions. Very shortly we will tack the ship, round Wilson’s Promontory then shape a new course for Westernport Bay. Overnight all of the watches will complete the Apples & Onions Exercise as we continue to make good speed under sail along the Victorian Coast.      Until tomorrow evening, take care. Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
