NORTH WEST OF MORETON IS
PAST 24 HOURS24 YOUNG AUSTRALIANS JOINED THE SHIP IN BRISBANE FOR THEIRMAGNIFICENT ADVENTURE UNDER SAIL. FAMILY AND FRIENDS WERE THERE TO BID FAREWELL TO OUR YOUNG ADVENTURERS FROM THE WHARF AT BULIMBA ARMY BARRACKS. THEN IT WAS TIME TO GET INTO THE PROGRAM AND OUR NEW TEAM BEGAN TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER, THE STAFF AND THE SHIP.MY AWESOME STAFF TEAM FOR THIS VOYAGE CONSISTS OF:HIBBO: AS EXECUTIVE OFFICERJORDO: AS NAVIGATORGEORGIE: AS WATCH OFFICERBEC: AS CHEFHORTO: AS ENGINEERJOCK: AS WHITE WATCH LEADEREDDIE: AS BLUE WATCH LEADERSPEEDY: AS RED WATCH LEADERIN ADDITION, FOR THE FIRST THREE DAYS OF THIS VOYAGE WE HAVE A CREW FROM TOTALLY WILD ON BOARD TO DO A FEW STORIES ON WHAT YOUNG ENDEAVOUR IS ALL ABOUT. OVER THIS FIRST NIGHT CLIMBS WERE CONDUCTED TO THE TOP OF THE MAST. THIS ALONG WITH LEARNING SOME OF THE KNOTS THAT WILL BE USED WHISLT ON BOARD KEPT EVERYONE BUSY DURING THE QUIET HOURS. ALL YOUTH CREW PROVED THEY WERE KEEN, ENTHUSIASTIC AND READY TO GIVE THEIR ALL TO THE EXPERIENCE.THIS MORNING WE STARTED WITH SOME FUN AND GAMES ON THE DECK AT 0630. NOT LONG AFTER, IT WAS TIME TO GET UNDERWAY AND START CRUISING THE BEAUTIFUL MORETON BAY.AS IS OFTEN THE CASE IN THIS SHIP, WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET ASPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE FROM MISS EPIRB TO HELP IN THE CONSOLIDATION OF SOME OF THE MORE IMPORTANT SAFETY LESSONS. THEN IT WAS INTO WORKING ON LINES AND SETTING SOME SAILS. THE WIND WAS LIGHT AND VARIABLE WHICH KEPT THESE ACTIVITIES INTERESTING.GOING INTO LUNCH, THE WEATHER IS GLORIOUS AND ALL YOUTH CREW APPEAR TO BE FINDING THEIR SEA LEGS. OUR TEAM HAS COMMENCED THEIR EVOLUTION FROM 24 INDIVIDUALS, WHO HAVE VERY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND EXPERIENCES, TO ONE YOUTH CREW.NAUTICAL TERM OF THE DAYTAKEN ABACK: WHEN A SQUARE RIG SAILING SHIP’S SAILS BILLOW OUT INREVERSE DUE TO A SUDDEN, UNFORSEEN WIND SHIFT (OR INATTENTION ON THE PART OF THE HELMSMAN). Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow.
