Nordic Sven the Cow Chaser

After a peaceful night at anchor in the serene surroundings of Jervis Bay, we rose early for morning exercise – we also went for a swim. At 0830 we departed JB and sailed north all day arriving here a few moments ago. We had great weather all day, but the wind dropped after lunch so we motor sailed the rest of the way. Enroute we conducted setting and furling drills and the Youth Crew proved to themselves and me that they could set and furl all sails by themselves and do it safely – well done guys.Because we badly need wind for Command Day, Brother Nutzi was summoned to bring on wind. To prove his powers to the doubting Youth Crew he levitated them. He had to be protected on completion by a Secret Service agent – aka Ducky, and Nordic Sven the Cow Chaser, aka Nathan. As we are now at anchor, the Youth Crew are electing their Command team for tomorrow. Judging by their hoots of approval there seems to e some popular choices. They haven’t found out yet but they need to sail the ship to Watson’s Bay in Sydney Harbour – with a few detours thrown in – like the Olympic Sailing Courses. It will be a challenge, and hopefully it will be fun, too.Youth Crew entry by Kathryn Hall, 23, of East Keilor, Melbourne. The prospect of sailing on a Tall Ship was a daunting one, although it was something I have wanted for over two years. Finally, persistence paid off and I was chosen. The first few days were exhilarating and provided various challenges. One being seasickness. I have certainly felt a range of emotions over the past 7 days. I was out of my comfort zone and pushing my limits climbing the mast at night in 4 metre seas. The Young Endeavour provided new challenges, the opportunity to meet other people and develop life skills. The staff are patient, compassionate, understanding and able to relate to us on many levels. For anyone contemplating this Voyage it is definitely an experience that shouldn’t be missed.Speak tomorrowAndrew Davis
