Nara Inlet to Sea
We started today waking up to the beautiful open ocean and on the way to Bait Reef (SHARK BAIT OO HA HA). White watch started the day dark and early (12am) to watch the stars go by as we attempted to sail. As soon as Blue Watch took over, something went wrong! Not to worry, Benny saved the day (again). During morning brief with Capt. Mike, Salty a very special guest, told us the story about how sail boats came to be using cutlery, a very large sweet potato and a few pieces of bread (yum). With our morning briefed, life jackets on and flippers on toes we bounced our way out to Bait Reef for a four and a half out of five snorkels snorkel. Matt.F went head to head with a coral reef, a couple of small cuts were sustained by a single unnamed party although medic Ads patched him up better than new. While Matt was attracting sharks, Emma was teaching the Youthies a fun game called Ninja, which we definitely got better than her at it. From there we did our very first, second, and third tack (once our Nav (g’day Jemma) pointed us the right direction). Speaking of Jemma, we also learnt about the art of navigation! Back on course and entering the afternoon, the whales came out to play much to the delight of the Youthies. Some Youthies (i.e. me (i.e. Philly)) got to experience their lunch twice!! How lucky! Finally, as the sun climbed down from the sky and tucked itself away in the waves, a couple of brave souls climbed the main mast (onya Thor and Gareth!) to witness a spectacular sunset. We’ve wrapped up the day (so far) with a delicious dinner and now it’s time for watches. That’s all from us (Philly and Matt. F)! Quick shout out to our families and friends back home! Hope you’re not having too much fun without us hehe.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
