Manning the Yards
Ahoy there Shipmates, Harry woke the crew with another of his favourite tunes and then it was into a quick EMA on deck, shower, breaky and then pack their bags. It’s the last day of the voyage! After the final Morning Brief and Happy Hour for the, Young Endeavour departed our berth at the Fleet Base at 0900 and the Youth Crew layed aloft in the old Naval tradition of ‘Manning the Yards’ for the formal arrival. After a lap under the Harbour Bridge we berthed at the Fleet Base at 1000 in front of family and friends. Following a brief ceremony, attended by the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mead, AM RAN, who presented the Captain’s Award for Excellence to Phoebe Weatherley, and the Lord Mayor of the Upper Hunter Shire Council, Wayne Beddgood who spoke to everyone about the Council’s 19 year association with Young Endeavour, we said our final farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 09/18. It has been a magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten. I hope you have enjoyed sharing the adventures of this voyage through my Captain’s Log over the last eleven days as much as I have enjoyed writing about them. The ship now enters a routine 6 week maintenance period in Sydney and will sail again on 11 Jun 18 to commence the winter northern deployment with Voyage 10/18 to Newcastle.  Yours Aye Captain Mike

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
