Have Entered The Bight
Hi Everyone, Overnight we passed through the Recherche Archipelago and entered the Great Australia Bight. So far the weather has been kind with only a small number of Youth Crew suffering from the dreaded sailors curse of seasickness but I am sure that they will improve over the next 24 hours. It has been another busy day for the crew of Young Endeavour and we have well and truly got the program back on track. This morning following morning brief Adam the Sail Master gave a short brief on how to set the mainsail and the jib and shortly after we brought the ship under a full press of fore & aft sails. With the ship now properly under sail tacking stations were called and the Youth Crew conducted four very good tacks demonstrating to the Staff that they had hoisted in’ the previous 24 hours of instruction. Once this activity was complete the ship was returned to her easterly course and we again continued with our journey across the Bight. This afternoon following another one of Chef Chad’s amazing lunches we completed the first round of rope races which is already turning out to be a very competitive event between all three watches. To finish of the days activities Trish the Navigator gave one of her very informative presentations on the scientific art of navigation. This evening following another great dinner we experienced a spectacular sunset and enjoyed a visit from a couple of friendly dolphins who decided to come and surf in our bow wave. The time is now 1930 and we have all settled into our watches for the evening. Overnight the Youth Crew will continue to consolidate their newly acquired navigation and sailing skills.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
