First Day of Voyage 02-10

Hi Everyone, Welcome to Voyage 2-10 from Newcastle to Sydney. The Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:Captain GavSail Master SusieNavigator AdamBOATSO DamienRed Watch Leader PennyWhite Watch Leader Taff assisted by SnowyBlue watch Leader DutchyChef BecEngineer – LindseyThe voyage began today with a welcome to the Youth Crew, and a large gathering of family and friends at the Queens Wharf in Newcastle. With all new Youth Crew onboard by 1530 I gave my welcome address whist at the same time competing with a rather loud band that was performing on the wharf approximately 20 meters away (I think the band won). On completion of this address we said our farewells then commenced our training program with a safety brief. Due to the strong winds, torrential rain and thunder storm activity that we were experiencing in the Hunter Region and the poor options for a sheltered anchorage I decided to remain alongside for the first evening so that we could commence the training program in more stable conditions. With the safety brief complete the Watch Leaders conducted a number of ice breaker activities’ which was followed by ships tours then dinner (Chef Bec excelled again tonight with a fantastic dinner). Once we had cleaned up from dinner it was straight into Captains and Sail Master talks followed by safety aloft briefs then first night climbs of the foremast. The time is now 2200 and both Red and Blue Watch have both completed their first climbs to the topgallant yard (highest yard), which may I add was conducted in torrential rain. White Watch is now half way through their climb and I envisage that they should be back on deck by 2230. This will complete all of our programmed activities for the day and I am pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew have done exceptionally well.Tomorrow morning we will depart Newcastle Harbour and given that the forecast is for southerly winds we will head north along the NSW Central Coast.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
