Fingal Bay
G’day Shipmates, Welcome to day 3 of our adventure under sail. The ship continued sailing north overnight along the NSW coast running down wind with the Topsail and Top Gallant square sails set. The wind remained south westerly and had eased to 15 knots by sunrise by which time we were experiencing two distinct swells, an ENE at 1.5m and a southerly of 2.0m. This made finding a short term sheltered anchorage a challenge. We investigated the bays at Broughton Is and found nothing suitable so during lunch we passaged south to the NW corner of Fingal Bay which offered good shelter.  The first round of Rope Races was conducted at 1230. This is a game designed to improve the youth crew’s knowledge of the ship, the sails, the lines (ropes) used to manipulate the sails and the important equipment on the upper decks in a healthy inter-watch competition. Points are scored each round and a prize will be awarded to the winning watch on the last day of the voyage. Once we had anchored we launched the Sea Boat and Watch Officer Jordo ferried everyone ashore for a break from the Ship, a leg stretch and a chance for a swim at the local beach. Everyone returned onboard by 1600 looking relaxed and re-vitalised. Once everyone had showered we all and enjoyed a ‘Teak Deck BBQ on the upper decks, taking in the sights of Fingal Bay whilst enjoying some more of Keely’s delicious food. I was given an apron and the opportunity to cook the onions and the lamb chops! Dinner was followed by an activity called ‘three-way chats’. The youth crew are split into groups of three, one member from each watch, and they have to learn things about each other so that they can speak for 3 minutes but they don’t find out which member of their group they will talk on until immediately beforehand. It is a great opportunity for the youth crew to learn more about each other and try out some public speaking. At 2100 we weighed anchor and commenced our passage southwards towards our next destination of Jervis Bay. Until tomorrow. Yours AyeCaptain Mike

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
