Final Night Of Voyage 16/08
Ahoy Shipmates, At 0700 this morning YE weighed anchor, departed Port Sorrell and completed the 2 hour passage around to Devonport were we berthed Starboard side to Berth 3 at 0900. After sullage (garbage) was landed and stores embarked 30 guests from Family Services Tasmania and some Staff Crew guests were welcomed onboard. The lines were cast off at 1005 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into open water were engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. The weather was perfect and all of our guests enjoyed a memorable sail. Throughout the half day sail, the YC acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests with a repertoire of YE songs. By 1230 it was time to hand in all sail and begin the passage back to our berth, arriving as planned at 1300. Once we had farewelled our guests, stores for the next voyage were embarked and preparations made for our departure. At 1420 we again departed our berth and conducted a short passage to our planned anchorage just north east of the mouth of the Don River. Once at anchor we conducted the last set of rope races followed by harbour furls. This evening we enjoyed our last teak deck BBQ for this voyage followed by an entertaining ship’s concert. The rest of the evening will see the YC complete end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion. Overnight all watches will enjoy their last anchor watch together before completing their voyage in Devonport at 1000 tomorrow. This ends another memorable voyage for the Staff and Youth Crew of YOUNG ENDEAVOUR. Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
