Final Night Of Voyage 10-09
Hi Everyone, This morning was overcast with moderate south easterly winds and the occasional shower. After colours and a short morning brief the YC were turned to at cleaning stations in preparation for receiving our guests for the half day sail. The anchor was weighed at 0840 and the ship made the short passage to HMAS CAIRNS where she berthed starboard side to Berth 1 at 0900. After sullage (garbage) was landed and stores embarked, 30 guests from the Sporting Wheelies, St Johns Community Care, Cairns Inclusion Program and some Staff Crew guests were welcomed onboard. The lines were cast off at 1010 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into Trinity Inlet were we set sail and shut down main engines. In strong conditions YOUNG ENDEAVOUR and her guests enjoyed a fantastic sail down the channel setting and furling sails before exiting the channel and completing a completing a spectacular tack Ship. Throughout the half day sail, the Youth Crew acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests with a repertoire of their favourite YE songs. By 1205 it was time to hand in all sail and begin the passage back to our berth, arriving as planned at 1300. Once our guests had departed, stores for the next voyage were embarked and the ship refuelled. Due to strong winds I decided to defer our departure until 1600 so that the Youth Crew could complete harbour furls in more stable conditions whilst the ship was still alongside. At 1600 we again departed our berth and conducted a short passage to anchor out in Trinity Inlet. This evening we enjoyed our last teak deck BBQ for the voyage followed by an upper deck slide show of photographs taken by the Youth Crew throughout the voyage. The rest of the evening was spent with YC completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the YC were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew took the opportunity to conduct the end of voyage debrief. At 1000 tomorrow morning Young Endeavour will berth for the final time for this voyage at HMAS CAIRNS Berth No 1. Following our farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 10-09 the Staff Crew will take a well earned 72hr break and make preparations for our next voyage commencing on Friday 7 August, which is from Cairns to Darwin. This ends the sixth voyage of Young Endeavours 2009 Australian circumnavigation, which for all of us has been another great adventure.Until next voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
