Day 5 – Alongside Eden

Hi Everyone, welcome to day 5 of our voyage.

During the early hours of this morning, we rounded Cape Howe and shaped a new course to the north. By Morning Brief, we were located 5nm to the east of Eden and given the favourable conditions we decided to set all fore & aft sails, enter Twofold Bay and conduct a set rotational tacks. With this activity complete we handed in all sail then proceeded alongside Edens Break Water Wharf safely berthing at 1100. Once alongside we enjoyed another one of Chef Steve’s great lunches then we let our young mariners ashore so they could set foot on Terra Firma and enjoy the sights of the wonderful township of Eden. Thats enough from me I will now hand over to Jade, TJ, and Alex who have done a wonderful job of writing tonight’s Log.

Until tomorrow, take care.
Captain Gav

This morning us Youthies were woken up at 7am to the sound of ‘The Circle of Life’, and Kyle’s (totally soothing) voice over the sound system telling Blue Watch to be up on deck. We were gifted with the smell of Chef Stevo’s choccy pancakes, making it so much easier to wake up. After a short morning watch, followed by an entertaining morning brief and Cap Gav’s quote of the day, Youthies were ultimately determined to furl in the sails for arrival in Eden. Once on beloved land, we never lost our sea legs, succumbing to swaying our way through the Whale Museum.

Despite fatigue setting in, the watches ventured off to wander the town and treated each other to some snacks. Blue Watch thereafter hiked down to one of Eden’s beautiful beaches, took some stunning photos, played with a baseball on the sand, and battled with seaweed on the shore, alongside our wonderful watch leader, Becc, who we wouldn’t be Blue Watch without. We reviewed our goal setting while sharing some laughs and formed new plans to work together efficiently as a team.

Once back on the ship, we had the pleasure of regaining hygiene thanks to an extra twenty seconds added to the ninety second shower limit on a stationary (not rocking) boat. After a short while, we had a memorable evening. After a barbeque and chocolatey dessert, we made new connections with others outside our watch and introduced one another in first person. Overall, we are so grateful we got to touch land today and have many wonderful laughs together as a crew. After a rough few days out at sea, it brought a little bit of comfort, comradery and high spirits back onto the boat.

From TJ to her family: Hey Dad and Reanna, I miss you guys very much after being homesick for the last few days, but I’m also having a fantastic time with my newly made shipmates and am forming great relationships and memories. I’m so excited to see you back at the Harbour. Much love! (Navy is a closed door… definitely Air Force)

From Jade to her family and friends: I defs am not a ship girl but if we ever needed to travel anywhere by ship, I could maybe get us there. Love and miss you guys so much, so excited to sleep without falling out of my bed.
