Day 4 – Calm Seas
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day 4 of our voyage. As they say all good things come to those who wait, and good things have come to the crew of Young Endeavour today with the Weather Gods smiling 😊 upon us giving light winds and calm seas. These conditions have enabled us to get our program back on track and all of us have enjoyed a great day. That’s enough from me as tonight Eliza and Maddy from Red Watch have done a great job of writing tonight’s Log so please enjoy.
Until tomorrow, take care.
Captain Gav
Hi to all friends and families following along at home,
Today Red watch started off the morning of day 4 at 0400. With heavy eyes and still some land demons (seasickness) leaving our watch crew, we were still able to find the strength to seafurl the course and topsail using the gaskets. We were also greeted by a nice pink sun rise to make the early start worth it.
By morning brief there were a lot more smiles and colour back in Youthie’s faces. We had happy hour in full swing with a good variety of music getting us through the hour. We then had navigator Trev give us the basic ins and outs of navigation and how we can determine our location based on land markings, GPS and RADAR.
At 1330 we had another round of rope races where our memory of FORE and AFT sails were put to the test. It was proven that the blue team had the better memory today, but it is still early days. Rope races were then followed by us Youthies learning tacking stations. With Kyle’s patience and guidance, we were able to successfully put the bow of the boat through the wind. As the weather warmed up, the layers began to come off. We think this might be mother nature apologising for what she put us through on the Bass Strait.
We seem to be making good distance, with Eden not too far in the horizon. But don’t get us wrong we are currently enjoying being in the middle of the ocean and find it quiet cool to look out and only see the sea, with of course our frequent sights of dolphins and albatross.
We are missing home, but rest assure we are having a great time finding our sea legs and learning the rules of the road. We are looking forward to the coming days to come!

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
