Day Ten – Final Night of Voyage

Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 10 and the final night of our voyage. At 0600 this morning the Staff Crew weighed anchor and got an early start on our passage around to Ningaloo Reef before waking the Youth Crew at 0700.During this passage we conducted a short morning brief and cleaning stations then at 0930 we came safely to anchor in the very scenic Tantabiddi Bay. Once at anchor the Youth Crew were split into two groups then one group at a time were ferried over to Ningaloo Reef where for 90 minutes they were given the opportunity to snorkel amongst beautiful coral, abundance of tropical fish and other marine life.By 1300 we had everyone safely back onboard and following a late lunch we weighed anchor and commenced the 3.5hr passage around North West Cape and back to Exmouth. During this passage we completed the final round of rope races and end of voyage chats. These tasks were continually interrupted with the sighting of numerous Humpback Whales, some breaching and others just enjoying themselves in the shallows of Exmouth Gulf. This evening for dinner we enjoyed Chef Jenko’s amazing pizza then just on sunset we came safely to anchor just to the south west of the Exmouth Marina. Once at anchor the Youth Crew proceeded aloft and put neat sea furls on all of the squares. With this task complete we all mustered at midships and enjoyed the final night’s end of voyage slide show which gave all of us a chance to reflect back on the last 10 days of our voyage. The rest of the evening has been spent with the Youth Crew completing end of voyage questionnaires and “letters to themselves”, which are returned to each of them six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew will take the opportunity to conduct our own ‘end of voyage’ debriefs. Tomorrow morning the Youth Crew will be awoken early for their final early morning activity. Following breakfast and morning brief their personal effects will be placed up on deck and a final ‘happy hour’ conducted. Once completed they will be mustered at midships were I will give my final address then presented each of them with a well deserved Certificate of Achievement. With these formalities complete the Staff will say their final sad farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 17/16 then we will ferry them all ashore to the Exmouth Marina which will complete their voyage. Once all of the Youth Crew are safely ashore the Staff Crew will store ship then commenced post voyage checks in preparation for ou next voyage. On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 17/16 for your efforts throughout this voyage, you have been a wonderful crew and I wish you all the very best for the future. Young Endeavour will now have a four day break in Exmouth before embarking our next Youth Crew on Monday 17th October and heading for Fremantle which will be the 12th voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. Until Next Voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
