Day Ten – Final Night of Voyage

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day 10 and the final night of our voyage. This morning the crew awoke to cold and overcast day with passing squalls and extremely strong winds which was completely the opposite to what the other Australian States were experiencing.
At 0845 we weighed anchor and transited the short distance around to the Stanley Wharf but during our first approach quickly decided that the strong south westerly winds made it impossible to berth the ship alongside the wharf so we returned to our anchorage in the lee of the Stanley Nut and contacted our Community Day Sail guests who were happy to be ferried out to the ship by our RHIB.
As expected this took about an hour to achieve but as each boatload of guests arrived they were welcomed by the Youth Crew and given a tour of the ship. By 1105 we had everyone onboard and following my short welcome address we weighed anchor, set sail and in strong conditions achieved a very successful Community Day Sail with all of our guests enjoying the experience of sailing onboard Young Endeavour and meeting the Crew.
By 1300 we had returned to anchor and once we had farewelled our guest the Youth Crew proceeded aloft and in difficult conditions put neat furls on all of the squares. Once completed they conducted end of voyage chats then were ferried ashore to Stanley for another stroll through the local shops and cafes and for some brave souls a swim at the local beach.
By 1630 everyone was back onboard and following a wonder pizza dinner prepared by our amazing Chef Keely the Youth Crew were invited forward for a 12 Berth Disco.
Later this evening the Youth Crew completed end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves which will be returned to them in six months time. To finish the evening’s activities a movie was shown in the ships café then everyone settled into their final anchor watches for the voyage.
Tomorrow morning, weather permitting we will depart our anchorage, man the yards and berth for the final time for this voyage at Stanley Wharf at 1000 where I am sure that we will be welcomed by a number of family, friends and local well wishers.

Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 01/17 as they depart the ship.

On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 01/17 for your efforts throughout this voyage, you are a wonderful group of young Australians and all of the Staff Crew of Young Endeavour have thoroughly enjoyed sailing with you.

Young Endeavour will remain alongside in Stanley until the 15th January 17 when we will embark our second Youth Crew for 2017 and sail for Geelong, Victoria.

Until next voyage, take care

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
