Day Seven – Phillip Island
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day seven of our voyage, `By sunrise this morning we were located 12nm to the south east of Westernport Bay sailing close hauled under fore and aft sails in light to moderate south westerly winds.
Following morning brief we set the squares for the first time for this voyage then conducted a good set of demonstrational tacks. This activity gives the youth crew the opportunity to come to the bridge and observe how we tack and wear the ship and is a good practical demonstration in the lead up to Command Day.
Once completed we altered course to the north then commenced our pilotage into Westernport under sail. During this pilotage I conducted Captains Setting and Furling Drills and am pleased to announce that all of the watches did really well and all passed this important activity.
Once completed we kept the ship under sail and made an impressive sight sailing into Westernport Bay and around Phillip Island to the township of Cowes where we came safely to anchor at 1530.
Once at anchor the Youth Crew proceeded aloft to put sea furls on the mainsail and the squares then once completed lay below for another amazing dinner which was cooked tonight by our celebrity Navy Chef Abbie.
This evening I conducted the Command Day Brief which was followed by Command Day elections. To finish the day’s activities we are now screening the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’ on our big Young Endeavour outdoor cinema screen. Once the movie is finished we will go into anchor watches overnight ensuring that everyone is well rested for Command Day.
Until tomorrow, take care.
Yours Aye
Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
