Day Seven – At Anchor Prine of Wales Island

Hi Everyone,                       Welcome to day seven of our voyage. Following a good nights rest the Youth Crew were awake and up on deck at 0630 for an early morning activity. The passing tropical rain squalls that we had experienced overnight had now cleared and we were left with a fine but fairly humid day.Following morning brief and a quick set of cleaning stations (Happy Hour) the Youth Crew were sent aloft to cast loose gaskets on all three squares. While this was occurring we again had managed to attract a number of the locals who had come down to Main Wharf to have a look at the ship and farewell the crew.At 1000 using a combination of a favourable tide and wind we managed to safely depart Main Wharf and once clear of our berth set all three squares and made an impressive sight sailing out of Thursday Island Harbour and into Normandy Sound.Early that afternoon we shaped a course to the west, passed Larpent Bank, altered course to the south and then completed a number of tacks beating up wind to make our way to our planned anchorage at Prince of Wales Island where we came safely to anchor just to the north west of Brampfield Head at 1700.Once at anchor we enjoyed our first Teak Deck BBQ for the voyage whilst experiencing a spectacular Torres Strait sunset. To finish this evening’s activities the Youth Crew completed an entertaining teambuilding exercise called the ‘Spider Web’ prior to settling into anchor watches overnight.Tomorrow it will be an early start for everyone as we will start ferrying them ashore to Prince of Wales Island from 0630 where they will have a 40 minute walk up to a spectacular waterfall where they will be able to enjoy a refreshing early morning swim. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
