Day Nine – At Anchor Exmouth Gulf

Hi Everyone,                     Welcome to day nine of our voyage. Sadly the wind remained light and variable during the early hours of this morning and with 45nm still to go the only way that the Youth Crew were going to reach their final waypoint was to grant them the use of main engines.Despite this they remained positive and continued to complete as many tasks as possible including conducting a tack and wear of the ship prior to coming safely to anchor just to the north east of the Exmouth Marina at 1220.Once at anchor both boats were launched then the Youth Crew paddled the General Purpose Inflatable Boat (GPIB) ashore to Town Beach where I think they claimed their own piece of beach for themselves. Following them in was the rest of the crew who once ashore enjoyed a couple of hours swimming, snorkelling and playing beach sports on this nice stretch of beach.By late afternoon we had everyone back onboard so that they could enjoy another spectacular sunset BBQ dinner.Once we had cleaned up from dinner we conducted the official hand back of the ship from the Youth Crew to the Staff then we conducted a Staff facilitated Command Day debrief which was followed by the screening of the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’.This movie will be the last of the day’s activities and once finished we will settle into anchor watches for the night.Tomorrow morning it is our intention to weigh anchor bright and early at 0600 then head around North West Cape to Ningaloo Reef where if the conditions are suitable we plan to spend a few hours snorkelling in this amazing part of the Western Australian Coast.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
