Day 7 – At Anchor King Island
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Day 7 of our voyage. By sunrise this morning we had rounded Cape Wickham and were now in the lee of King Island which slightly reduced the swell but not the wind which was now gusting to 40kts. As the morning progressed we slowly made our way down the East Coast of King Island until finally bringing the ship to anchor in the relatively sheltered confines of Sea Elephant Bay at 1130.
Once at anchor a very relieved Youth Crew came out of hibernation and enjoyed another one of Chef Keely’s amazing lunches then following a quick clean of the ship were ferried ashore where they were met by a bus and tour guide who had been pre-booked for a tour of the Island. During the 2hrs that followed the Youth Crew got to visit the famous King Island Cheese Factory and commercial Kelp Farm whist learning about the history of the Island then finishing the tour with a visit to the islands main town of Currie.
This evening with everyone back on board we enjoyed a ‘Taco Night’ dinner then I conducted my Command Day Brief which was followed by Command Day elections.
With these elections complete we enjoyed celebrating Zeke’s 17th Birthday with a delicious ‘mega chocolate’ Birthday Cake then to complete the evening’s activities we screened the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’ which was very appropriate after last night’s rough weather.
The time is now 2130 and the Youth Crew have now settled into their anchor watches overnight ensuring that they are well rested for tomorrows challenging Command Day.
Until Tomorrow, Take Care
Yours Aye
Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
