Day 7 – At Anchor Heron Island
Hi everyone welcome to day seven of our voyage. Following a good nights rest at anchor our crew awoke to an overcast morning with strong winds and passing showers. On completion of our normal early morning activity at 0630 we enjoyed a quick continental breakfast then the Youth Crew were ferried ashore to Lady Musgrave Island were they were given the opportunity to spend the morning snorkelling in this picturesque marine park or enjoy a leg stretch and explore the Island. By 1230 everyone was safely back onboard and once both boats had been recovered the anchor was weighed and a new course shaped for Heron Island. Once underway I conducted Captains setting and furling drills. These drills are the final training activity prior to the commencement of Command Day and ensure that all watches can safely set and furl all sails. This activity was followed by the Captains Sail Challenge which on this occasion required the Youth Crew to hand in all sail, put sea furls on all the squares and finally brace the yards square, all without any assistance from their Watch Leaders. This was all achieved in the required time and was extremely pleasing as it proved to the staff that the Youth Crew have ‘hoisted in’ all of the previous six days of training. At the completion of this activity we came safely to anchor just west of the entry to the boat harbour at Heron Island. This evening, following a late dinner I conducted the Command Day brief which was followed by the Command elections. With these elections now complete the Youth Crew have now settled into anchor watches overnight ensuring that they have a good nights rest in preparation for what should be a challenging but enjoyable Command Day. Until Tomorrow, Take Care. Yours Aye Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
