Day 7 – At Anchor Broken Bay

Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 7 of the voyage. Overnight we continued to make ground to the north and by sunrise this morning we were located 15nm to the south east of Broken Bay. During the morning we continued with the training program, firstly with Captains setting and furling drills. These drills are the final training activity prior to the commencement of Command Day and ensure that all watches can safely set and furl all sails and I am pleased to advise that all three watches passed with ‘flying colours. These drills were followed by some practical navigation instruction which gave those of the Youth Crew that wanted to further develop their navigational skills the opportunity to do so. With these activities successfully completed all sail was handed in and we proceeded into Broken Bay coming safely to anchor just of the township of Patonga at 1500. Once at anchor the Watch Leaders spent time with their watches giving those that wished another opportunity to climb the foremast and for some the chance to achieve another goal. This evening we enjoyed another teak deck BBQ dinner (cooked tonight by Mike and Dave) which was followed by my Command Day brief and Command Team elections. To complete the day’s activities everyone made them selves comfortable on deck and enjoyed the Young Endeavour Outdoor Cinema screening of the classic film ‘Around Cape Horn’. Following the screening of this movie and after a very busy day the Youth Crew have now settled into their anchor watches for the night ensuring that they get a well deserved good nights rest in preparation for what will be a challenging Command Day. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
