Day 6 – Heading Down The NSW Coast
Hi Everyone, Welcome to Day 6 of our voyage. Our progress overnight was slow due to the strong southerly winds and our boat speed dropped to 5kts. By sunrise this morning we were located 12nm to the south east of Yamba still motor sailing into a strong headwind and a 1.5m swell. At morning brief we had a guest appearance from Nana Diesel (alias Sumo) who had earlier been through the ship to cleanup after everyone. The payback for Nana’s hard work was that the Youth Crew had to muster at midships and sing one of Nana’s favourite catchy tunes. Cleaning stations (happy hour) and lunch followed with our Navy Supernumerary Marcus demonstrating his culinary skills in the ship’s galley (kitchen) today and may I say that he has certainly maintained the high standard of meals that we are used to here on Young Endeavour. During the day we have kept the Youth Crew busy with a number of activities, including our daily set of rope races, which I believe that White Watch are still just a ‘whisker’ in front of the other two watches. On completion we ran an amusing egg drop activity and to finish up the afternoon we conducted an entertaining round of ‘three way talks’ (getting to know you and public speaking exercise0. This evening following another sumptuous dinner cooked by Chef Marcus our other Supernumerary Aaron hosted a ship’s trivia night which tested our general knowledge on a number of different subjects. The time is now 2030 and the Youth Crew have again settled into their watches for the night. Whilst on watch overnight they will be instructed on coastal navigation by the Watch Officer and continue to develop their mariner skills. We are currently located 8nm to the south east of South West Rocks still motor sailing into a moderating southerly. In the past 5 days we have now travelled a total of distance 748.6nm and even thought we have slowed down due to the southerly we are still doing extremely well. The current forecast is for the southerly winds to moderate to light and variable tomorrow and for the swell to drop down to 1m. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
