Day 6 – Heading South
Ahoy there family and friends, it’s Hollie and Jackson reporting live from the Young Endeavour.
Today wakey wakey was bright and early at 0600 which was followed by a fun game. We had another amazing breakfast, courtesy of Jarod, before weighing anchor at 0700, and heading on our way down south. Sails were set as blue watch took the helm. Our morning brief came around at 0830, where once again Matty gave us ‘the plan of the day!’
Following some comedic naval history from our ships mum, Emma, we started happy hour, ensuring our rig was tiddly and squared away. A brief moment of lazing on the deck was followed, right before we were called to a meteorology briefing, introduced with the song “It’s raining met”. We spent a good half-hour learning about high and low pressure systems and some key indicators of good and poor weather including cloud height, barometric pressure and wind speed.
The forecast for lunch included lamb chops and hot dogs. The watch was handed over to Red watch and everyone else had a nice siesta on deck. The “non-competitive” competition of rope races rolled around with White watch taking the lead. A quick round of applause for Will who ate an entire apple (yes, including the core) to score his team a point.
After rope races, we participated in rotational tacks where we explored other watches tacking stations. After familarising ourselves with all the other positions, we returned to our own to do some demonstrational tacking. Our super amazing Captain let a few youthies from each watch take turns coming up to the bridge to see the whole ship tack. It was so cool. All in all, we tacked the ship approximately seven times today!
Jarod surprised us all with some freshly baked muffins after all our hard work and we had an hour to go and relax before dinner. Our awesome, amazing, jaw-dropping, super talented chef cooked us a delicious dinner of stir fry chicken and/or nachos.
Blue watch then retook the helm and participated in some navigation exercises led by Matty before handing over to Red watch to keep us safe until midnight. We had an absolutely amazing day today, and we look forward to seeing what tomorrow will bring.
Shout out to all the Knights, I miss you guys and can’t wait to see you all soon! Love, Hollie xx

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
