Day 5 – Linda\’s Birthday

Ahoy there everyone,Welcome to day five, overnight the ship remained at anchor in scenic Trial Bay adjacent Laggers Point and the historic gaol. The morning commenced at 0630 with Sail Master Dion energising the Staff and Youth Crew with an invigorating early morning activity prior to breakfast. After morning brief the Young Endeavour pool was opened for all those keen adventurers accepting the challenge to swing from the course yard arm rope or dive from the bowsprit into the clear waters of the bay. During the day each watch climbed aloft, conducted a challenging teamwork activity competed in ‘rope races’ and attended a presentation by Watch Officer Sandon detailing the maritime Rules of the Road, an important component of safely navigating the ship to avoid colliding with other vessels or running aground by correctly identifying various lights, shapes and navigation markers. This culminated with consuming a hand crafted cake in honour of Youth Crew member Linda’s 17th birthday. Another magnificent dinner from Master Chef Luke and his three apprentices was provided prior to weighing anchor and recommencing our voyage motor sailing north along the New South Wales north coast on a starboard tack beam reach under a full press of sail. Overnight the Youth Crew will continue to consolidate deck work, helming, engineering rounds and navigation be challenged with a teamwork and leadership exercise as the ship continues to make ground to the north along the NSW South Coast. It was also rewarding to observe that collectively the Youth Crew had been awarded their sea legs whilst in Trial Bay. Until tomorrow evening, take care. Yours Aye Captain Damien
