Day 5 – Lady Elliot Island

Ahoy there, I like the cut of your Jib.

Day 5 of our vibe filled 10 day voyage brought us to the stunning Lady Elliot Island, anchoring close to the beautiful reef. The morning began with an entertaining wakey wakey performance by the White watch, singing ‘Best Day of My Life’. Everyone changed into their best floral outfits for the alternative floral Saturday, everyone looked mint. Our wonderful chef Jarod cooked up a snazzy array of breakfast delights.

After the delicious breakfast we once again had the privilege to hear from Captain Cook…Of the Sea Boat reading an entry from her Grand pappy’s journal, filling us with positive vibes to begin the day. Then our favourite time of the day arrived, happy hour! Below deck was transformed into a cleaning party with the assistance of blasting music.

Next up on the itinerary was the rope races, a daily competitive war like fight for first place.  After the hectic competition, a mouth-watering lunch was served, tasty chicken kiev and quiche filled our stomachs. Once lunch had finished everyone got changed into their swimmers, preparing to go ashore onto the island. Finally stable ground! Captain Cook…Of the Sea Boat provided fine transport from the ship to the island. Upon arrival everyone dashed to grab their snorkel gear and dive straight in. Whilst snorkelling we saw various fish, turtles and other sea creatures. The coral was a fantastic sight to see, putting smiles onto every youthies face.

After the aquatic adventure we relaxed upon the sandy shores sunbathing and building rock piles. Soon after Captain Cook…Of the Sea Boat once again provided a fine transport from the island back to the ship. After showers and changing into floral gear once again, we were delighted with a fantastic barbecue above deck witnessing the sun set and the moon rise.

Dancing, singing and fun games were scattered throughout the evening providing joyous entertainment for all. None of us wanted the day to end. After the fun and games we all sat together as watches and reflected upon our adventure so far focusing on self-reflection and further connecting within our watches. The evening soon came to an end at 2000 with anchor watches to begin at 2130.

Shout out to Mum, Nan, Grandad and Oscar, I miss you all so much. Thank you for supporting me in this amazing experience, can’t wait to see you all again. Much love, Olivia xxx

I have decided I love sailing and tall ships are quite spectacular to be on. Sea sickness was very horrible but all is well now. I have got my sea legs. From Alpha Victor Alpha Charlie.
