Day 4 – Sun, Sea and Sails!
Ahoy shipmates…Day 4 and some awesome sailing conditions. After a restful night at anchor we departed Jervis Bay at 0730 and immediately set a full press of fore and aft sails to make best use of the 15knot (and chilly) south westerly breeze. Morning brief was followed by happy hour, with the remainder of the morning spent with the youth crew consolidating recently learned skills (climbing/sail handling), or relaxing on the bowsprit watching the world go by. After another delicious lunch from chef Keely, a 1300 round 2 of rope races, also hosted by special guest Keely, tested the youth crew’s knowledge of the lines for the fore and aft sails…let’s just say…room for improvement ;). We then decided to make the most of the conditions and rolled straight into demonstrational tacks, where I talk the youth crew, in small groups, the process of tacking the ship from the bridge…valuable information for Command Day. After 3 tacks and a wear (gybe) we resumed our passage north, enjoying a spectacular sunset followed soon after by an equally impressive moonrise, and settling into watches overnight. We aim to arrive in the sheltered waters of Broken Bay early in the morning, avoiding some seriously nasty weather coming up the coast behind us. We are currently just to the north east of Wollongong under square sails and a very bright moon…cool! That’s about it from me, I’ll hand you over to Alex and Lily to fill in the gaps. Until tomorrow, fair winds, Captain Kenny———-
Woke up at 6:30am to blue skies by ELO blasting through the speakers in our cabins and a very excited Reggie who was prompting our swift rise to the upper deck where we were told to walk around the deck and after a couple of laps played a card game with the whole crew. We raised anchors and set sail to leave Jervis Bay, then like clockwork we made way for the galley where had some of the best breakfast made by our lovely chef then did the happiest hour of the day. As the day went on we did a lot of setting and furling sails as well as going out on the bowsprit and climbing the mask. We played some games on deck after lunch, rope races and some tacks. Had dinner and now have started our watches.
Lily – Hey Mum, Dad and sisters really enjoying my time can’t wait to see you guys. I’m in red watch and made it to the top of the mast! We are coming into Newcastle on the 2nd (TBC). I wanted to let you know so you can watch us come in.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
