Day 4 – At Anchor Port Fairy

Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 4 of our voyage. During the early hours of this morning the wind moderated to less than 8kts which meant that we had to start main engines and motor-sail. By 0900 we were located 20nm to the south of Warrnambool still motor-sailing due to the light and variable conditions. This morning following breakfast and cleaning stations (Happy Hour) Jordo the Boats Officer gave his interactive presentation on Rules of the Road then the Youth Crew were given some ‘down time’ so they could do their washing (by hand in a bucket) or just enjoy some quiet time reflecting on their time at sea. By 1130 we were located 2nm from Port Fairy so all remaining sail was handed in and we proceeded to anchor in Port Fairy Bay at 1200. Once safely at anchor we conducted a three way talk demonstration followed by a boat safety brief then ferried everyone ashore to the picturesque township of Port Fairy. Whilst ashore the Youth Crew were given the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with civilisation, hug a tree (great cure for seasickness), have a good leg stretch, enjoy a swim or play a game of beach footy or dodge ball. This evening with everyone back onboard we enjoyed a magnificent Teak Deck BBQ which was followed by an enjoyable round of three way talks (communication and public speaking exercise). To finish the evenings program Miquela the Navigator gave a brief on keeping the ship safe whilst at anchor. The time is now 2145 and the Youth Crew have now settled into their anchor watches for the night which will ensure that everyone is well rested for the days ahead. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
