Day 4 – Ahoy Tasmania!

What a difference a day makes! The day started with a guts watch to be remembered – cold, wet and windy. Battling through the Bass Strait, we had swells coming well over the gunnels, and fought to control the sails and the winds, not wishing to pick a consistent direction.

White Watch (aka Green Watch) went to bed to 0400, exhausted. But come wakey-wakey at 0700, it was a different day. The sun was shining, the seas had calmed, and there were fresh waffles for breakfast!

Those vibes continued throughout the day; coming up on deck, we saw Tasmania! The end of the voyage is in sight. We undertook Morning Briefing, the happiest of Happy Hours, and deck games. Chef Ash gave us all a wonderful lunch consisting of Asian-style duck, beef ravioli and roast lamb.

Shortly after lunch, flag bin races kicked into full gear. Returnees were put to their full paces, hoisting flag after flag to communicate letters with each other and beat the other teams. Not to mention, some dubious tactics were employed.

The learning continued, even being Returnees, with Matty teaching the whole crew a lesson on splicing rope together with a resounding success for the majority of us, while others napped on deck.

From there, the afternoon was our own. Whether it was spent chilling on deck, hanging out on the bow sprit, spotting dolphins and whales, playing cards downstairs or catching up on some lost sleep, laughter and joy were heard throughout the ship.

We’re currently enjoying calm seas and one of the best sunsets we’ve seen on watch. Going into the last full day of the voyage, the whole crew has found their rhythm and sea legs, with spirits held at an all-time high!
