Day 3 – Hole in the Wall
Hi Everyone,Welcome to Day 3 of our voyage. We remained in the vicinity of Melville Bay overnight wearing ship twice and getting the Youth Crew comfortable with keeping watches and sailing the ship.At 0800 this morning we transited through the narrow passage between Point William and Bromby Islet, then passed through The English Companys Islands where we entered Donington Sound.Once in the Sound the wind freshened to 10-12kts, which enabled us to put the ship under fore and aft sail and complete the tacks that were not achieved yesterday due to light conditions. On completion we conducted a Man Overboard Exercise in which we safely recovered our lifebuoy then resumed our passage across Donington Sound with the intention of being at the entry to the Gugari Rip or ‘Hole in the Wall’ as it is more commonly known by 1400, which was slack water. This notorious narrow passage in the Wessel Islands is well charted and provides some unique scenery which everyone enjoyed viewing from either the bowsprit or up the foremast as we transited safely through under main engines due to lack of favourable wind.Having cleared the Gugari Rip, the ship came hard onto the wind and enjoyed a speedy reach northwards on the lee side of the Wessel Islands finally coming to anchor just prior to sunset. This evening we enjoyed an entertaining round of three way chats which is a communication and getting to know you exercise which was followed by Kyle the Navigators anchor brief.Overnight the Youth Crew will keep anchor watches ensuring that all onboard get a good night’s sleep and are well rested for the days ahead. Until tomorrow, take care Yours Aye Captain GavÂ

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
